1. What is Hellocycle?
Hellocycle is a subscription recycling service that makes recycling common household items that can’t go into curbside collection programs simple. You know the batteries, CFLs, CDs, adapters, old cords, and other junk that piles up in your house? We recycle those. Don’t throw them away, and don’t let them clutter your home. Send them to us!
2. What are the subscription options?

3. What do you recycle?
Everything we recycle can be found on our home page. Not sure if we’ll take something that you want to send? Shoot us a note! In many cases, we can figure out how to recycle it.
4. What are the payment options?
Payments are processed by Paypal. Don’t have a Paypal account? Creating one is easy, fast and safe. We use Paypal because we know the payments are processed securely.
PayPal is an account-based system that lets anyone with an email address securely send and receive online payments using their credit card or bank account. It is free to open and send money using a PayPal account. PayPal has a quick, 1-page signup form for opening accounts. If you do not already have an account, you will automatically be sent to this form when you checkout.
5. Is it safe to order online?
Yes. We use PayPal for all of our online transactions. PayPal uses SSL technology to keep your information safe. In addition, when you send a payment using PayPal, we don’t receive sensitive financial information like your credit card or bank account number. Only PayPal has that information, encrypted and locked away safe.

6. How can I cancel?
By logging into your Paypal account, you may cancel at any time. Here are the steps:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click the Profile icon.
- Click Preapproved payments under “Payment settings.”
- Select Buttercup Z, Inc dba Hellocycle.
- Click Cancel.
7. How can I request a refund?
You may request a refund from within Paypal. We will process the refund, no questions asked. You may still send in your last box, and we will process it. The mailing label will still work. No hard feelings!
8. How can I change my address?
You may change your address within Paypal.
9. What does Hellocycle do with CFLs?
We have an arrangement with a recycler to take them. The bulbs are crushed, and the valuable internals are recovered. This is important because CFLs (compact fluorescent lightbulbs) contain mercury, which causes environmental problems when in a landfill.
10. What kind of batteries does Hellocycle recycle?
We recycle many types of batteries, not just alkaline! We include space in your subscription box for rechargeable and hearing aid type batteries. However, we DO NOT recycle car batteries, oversize batteries, or anything leaking. We include space for ~15 batteries per box for safety reasons.
11. What is the foam insert of the box made of?
It is an ester type foam that we have custom cut for Hellocycle boxes. We reuse the foam inserts if they are not damaged. Almost all of them can be recycled!
12. What is your toughest recycling challenge?
Without a doubt, batteries! We have to accumulate large volumes of them before it is economical. We send them to a smelter for metal recovery. Ultimately, we hope to develop a partnership with a battery manufacturer and have them recycled into new batteries.
